When the Santa says bye and new year says hi! means the season has come for one of the most biggest challenges in parenting - Nursery Class Admission Forms...!
Living in the capital (Delhi, India), I never thought it to be a challenge to seek school admission for my child until its upon me.
Dwarka Sub-City- its not been too much time since Dwarka popped onto map of Delhi. Lots of commercial market areas developed and people like me migrated to Dwarka for their discrete reasons.
I must truly say, there are only 2 important things MISSING in Dwarka - Cinema Hall and Malls which are under construction by the way but it will take some more years when "Dawkans"(people living in Dwarka) can enjoy this luxury.
I also must say, Dwarka also have extremely fertile land in terms of producing schools. You can find yourself looking at a school's building at every 1 - 2 KMs in whichever direction you intend to go.
Due to last year(2014) primary school admissions hassle based on Supreme Court orders (where parents faced cut-throat experiences in getting their child a desirable school and people filling up in 10+ schools ends up with their last choices) which ultimately delayed the primary school session, I was finding myself lucky that I didn't have to go through this escapade and was hoping that things will sort out till next year(2015) - which actually happened in terms of giving primary admission process control to schools.
My little girl is already attending a good play school with which me and my wife are undoubtedly satisfied. Belonging to human race, we wanted look for even better schooling options so we decided to take on the challenge and to be a part of what I call "The Nursery Admission Event 2015". We were fearless and on a mission, into the unknown, but were working hard to shortlist the relevant schools to us. We did this on Internet (of course!).
I received several calls to come for attending different events at various schools such as G.D Goenka, Mount Carmel etc where I didn't went as they were not in my consideration.
My first encounter was at DAV.
That day, I woke up early and had a warm bath, prayed for 5 mins, did mediation for 30 mins and now I was ready! ok ok.. I made it up - the last part... :)
Reached DAV Sec-6, they had well organised separate counters for issuing admission forms and form submission. There was a descent queue on both counters which I joined to get a from. On my turn (in approx 30 mins) I announced the child details, submitted the form fees and got the form with 3 pages of "required documents" instructions. While waiting in the queue, I met some Gurus (waiting in same queue) shredding buckets of free gyan to fellow parents and most of parents were listening to Gurus holding their breath. One Guru declared to a parent that you will not be able to get admission for your child here... I mean what? how does he know? some parents waiting in queue were threaten by Gurus related to their incomplete documents and they should bring XYZ documents more for their from to be accepted (a few of them left the queue and went for arranging the told documents by Guru).. how can you trust a person like this? have you not looked at the list of documents required at the time of form submission by yourself? Well it didn't surprised me when one of the Guru's form was rejected by School administration due to incomplete document set required for admission form submission after which I felt real good!! One of the fellow was proudly declaring that he has bought form from all 18 schools in Dwarka and will submit in all of them(which was making everyone nervous) after which many parents took advice from him regarding which school is good for admission on the other hand I was thinking the person who has filed for 18 schools can no longer tell you which is one is good.
We precisely went over all the required documents section and had no problems in completing the form.
Form submission was unexpectedly smooth. I reached the submission counter and it was empty and to my utmost surprise the total form submission procedure took less than 30 seconds.
Next target was Bal Bharati and so on... and they too went like charm. Not sure why filling up schools forms was made to hype. Now we have to see if we got a change to get into one of the opted schools...!
I wish every parent.. Happy School Hunting!!
